Are there any current or student midwives out there who can speak to their program's discussion of reproductive rights? Is there any discussion of abortion? If so, is it positive, negative, balanced? I'm interested in hearing about both CPM and CNM programs.

Better late than never!

I'm a Bmid student(Bachelor of Midwifery, so a direct entry program, I don't know what the equivilant is over your neck of the woods).
I'm half way through 2nd year and so far we've had discussions on abortion in a few of our subjects.
We had a lecture on the 'abortion debate' in Ethics and Legal Studies which I didn't get into because I don't see whats to debate, abortion is a right and thats that. In sociology we covered it over 2 tutes in regards to access to health care and legal status.
It was discussed in Psychology last year but that was because there was not much else to talk about.
I haven't heard any of my fellow students say anything anti-abortion, they would dare over here cause pro-choice is the vocal majority.
I have heard some uncool shit though, some dickhead saying 'some women use abortion as contraception'.. blechh... and some folk seem uncomfortable with the idea of late term.
